How often should my dog be professionally groomed?

On average, we recommend having your dog professionally groomed every 4–6 weeks. However, this can vary depending on your dog's breed, coat type, lifestyle and how quickly their coat grows.

Regular grooming helps keep the coat clean, comfortable and manageable, while also reducing the risk of matting and allowing us to spot any changes in your dog's skin or coat.

Every dog is different, so please contact us to discuss your dog and we'll be happy to recommend a grooming schedule that's right for them.

How much does dog grooming cost?

Our Wash & Blow-Dry services start from £30 and Full Grooms start from £45.

The final price can vary depending on your dog's breed, size, coat condition and the amount of time required. We're always happy to discuss your dog's individual requirements and give you an idea of the cost before booking.

What is included in a Full Groom?

Our Full Groom is designed to give your dog the complete Boujee Barkers treatment. Depending on your dog's breed and coat, this can include a bath, blow-dry, brushing, clipping or styling, nail trimming and general coat finishing.

We'll also discuss how you'd like your dog to look and anything you'd particularly like us to concentrate on.

What's the difference between a Full Groom and a Wash & Blow-Dry?

A Wash & Blow-Dry is ideal for keeping your dog clean, fresh and their coat in good condition between full grooming appointments.

A Full Groom includes the additional clipping, trimming and styling appropriate for your dog's breed and coat.

How long will my dog's groom take?

Appointment times vary depending on your dog's breed, size, coat condition, chosen service and how comfortable they are with being groomed.

We don't believe in unnecessarily rushing dogs through their appointments. We'll give you an estimated collection time and let you know when your dog is ready.

My puppy hasn't been groomed before. When should I start?

We encourage owners to introduce puppies to professional grooming from an early age, once they're appropriately vaccinated and ready to visit a grooming environment.

Early visits aren't just about getting a haircut. They help your puppy become familiar with the sounds, smells, equipment, handling and general grooming experience.

This can make future grooming much easier and more enjoyable for both your dog and their groomer.

My dog has never been professionally groomed before. Is that a problem?

Not at all.

We'll take things at your dog's pace and do our best to make their first experience with us a positive one.

Some dogs need a little more time to become comfortable with a grooming environment, so we may adapt the groom or recommend shorter introductory visits where appropriate.

Your dog's welfare will always come before achieving the perfect haircut.

Do you groom nervous or anxious dogs?

Yes. We understand that some dogs find grooming more challenging than others.

We'll take time to get to know your dog and adapt our approach wherever possible. If your dog becomes particularly stressed, we'll always prioritise their welfare and discuss the best way forward with you.

Building trust can sometimes take more than one visit.

What happens if my dog's coat is badly matted?

We'll assess your dog's coat when they arrive and discuss the options with you.

Severe matting can be uncomfortable and trying to brush it out isn't always the kindest option. In some circumstances, clipping the coat shorter may be necessary for your dog's comfort and welfare.

We'll always put your dog's wellbeing first.

Do short-haired dogs need grooming?

Absolutely! It's surprising how much loose hair, dirt and dead coat can come from a short-haired dog.

Professional bathing, drying and de-shedding can help remove loose coat, keep the skin and coat in great condition and reduce the amount of hair being left around your home.

Can I stay with my dog while they're being groomed?

In most cases, dogs settle better when their owner isn't present, as seeing or hearing you can sometimes make them more excited or unsettled.

Leaving them with us allows us to build our own relationship with your dog and usually makes for a calmer grooming experience.

Do you offer dog teeth cleaning?

Yes. Boujee Barkers offers Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning.

The system is designed to clean your dog's teeth without the traditional brushing action, making it a gentle option for ongoing dental hygiene.

We'll assess your dog's teeth and explain what we can realistically achieve before treatment.

How long does a teeth cleaning appointment take?

A standalone teeth cleaning session is approximately 30 minutes.

We currently offer a single session for £46, or you can add teeth cleaning to a Full Groom for £30.

Do you offer a teeth cleaning package?

Yes. Our 3-session teeth cleaning package is £99, compared with £138 when purchasing three individual £46 sessions.

Multiple sessions can be particularly useful when we're working on existing plaque and staining before moving onto maintenance appointments.

Will ultrasonic teeth cleaning replace veterinary dental treatment?

No. Our teeth cleaning service is intended to support your dog's ongoing dental hygiene and does not replace veterinary treatment.

If we see anything that concerns us, or believe your dog may require veterinary dental treatment, we'll always recommend speaking to your vet.

What should I do before bringing my dog for their appointment?

We recommend giving your dog an opportunity to go to the toilet before arriving and avoiding a large meal immediately before their groom.

Please also let us know about anything that could affect their appointment, including behavioural concerns, sensitive areas, previous grooming experiences or anything else you think we should know.

The more we know about your dog, the better we can tailor their visit.
